About Us

Jon and Norma Sather, Owners

Jon and Norma Sather live in Washington State and raise Apples in Lake Chelan.
Their second love is Winfield Farms in Marietta, Oklahoma.
They have been married for 57 years, have three beautiful daughters and have been blessed with eight grandchildren.

They have been in the "horse business" for 30+ years and bought their first Quarter Horse from Marie Munroe. Printa Page was from running blood lines. From there we went to working horses and bred to Major Bonanza. Jon studied blood lines and tried to (as everyone does),find the right one for each mare. Out of that, they got Lean With Me and other horses of exceptional talent. It has been fun to have a great horse and rider especially when it's yours. They luckily have had that pleasure.

Working with great trainers such as Bob Avila, Todd Bergan, Todd Crawford and others, they have turned out to be friends and along with the many great people we have met, it's truly been a wonderful time.

After many years of having horses in Washington, thanks to their daughter Cathy who watched, feed and foaled out all of them, they decided to buy the ranch in Oklahoma.

All of their horses moved to Marietta and Winfield Farms. After a few years of ups and downs, it got harder to be excited about the "business". The love of horses does not go away but, the every day things became harder. Along came Abby and Jeff Mixon and as trainer and manager, of Winfield Farms, they have made it FUN again. With the staff of Kyle and Lindsay, Winfield is a great place for horses, people and us! Adding the Longhorns has been a interesting adventure, they are the most beautiful "pasture decorations" in the world!

Come by and see us. Look at the foals by Julgun and our other great stallions. If you are lucky you may see a new calf. Longhorn babies are the cutest offspring of all!

Abby Mixon, Resident Trainer

Abby is just in the beginning of her career as a NRHA professional trainer since turning pro in 2005. She is off to a quick start making the Int. Futurity Open Finals twice and the Open and Int. Being the daughter of NRHA Professional, Don Boyd, Abby has been part of the reining business her whole life. Abby gives all the credit to her parents for making her the rider she is today. Having that hands on approach has given her much of the experience she has needed to be successful.

Now residing at Winfield Farms with her husband Jeff, Abby enjoys the great horses and facility. She says the location is perfect keeping her close to her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Marco Formentin. She is looking forward to all the opportunities there, knowing that it is taking her closer to fulfilling her dream of becoming a great trainer.
